what is the function of a music video

The functions of a music video is a short film integrating a song and imagery produced for promotional or artistic purposes. However modern music videos are more used as a marketing device (eg. eminem using Dr headphones) to promote the sale of music recordings. The origins of music videos dates back to the 1980s. MTV was a very popular music channel where all the latest music videos would be put up and it was a very popular music channel. Where as before the only way people could listen to music would be through radio's and juke boxes or buying tapes and cd's to listen to music.

Music videos use a wide range of styles of film making techniques, including animation, live action filming, documentaries and non- narrative approaches such as abstract film. Some  music videos blend different styles, such as animation and live action. Many music videos do not interpret images from the song lyrics, making it less literal than expected. Other music videos may be without  a set concept, being merely a filmed version of the songs live performance.

Today's society i would say lives on music. The younger generation has made music part of there lives where they will link there feelings and life and personality with the music that they listen to. There are alot of music channels today that promote a lot of music videos such as flava, chart show tv and channel u.
