Planning; Analysis of the original video

The song that we have chosen does have a music video, which has similar ideas to our music video. This is the music video for Marina and The Diamonds - Primadonna;

In the beginning of the video, there is a typography screen set in a cinematic way. The song has not started yet but it is introducing the song and the artist;
This may be because when the video is playing on television somewhere it would inform people watching it, what the song is called so that if they like it, they can check it out. This thus gains popularity for the artist. It also catches peoples attention because it is set in a very old fashioned way so it is quite intriguing.
I would not use this in my music video because I would want my audience to be intrigued by the actual artist, instead of the video. So bottom line, I want the video to be about the artist and reflect her attitude/personality.

The shot used in this music video highlights the artist too, but it also uses aspects of disjuncture. For example, here is a shot of her holding a plant;

This has nothing to do with music video; she does not even mention plants/flowers in her song. It is completely random but I think that's what makes this music video different; it makes people think what has that got to do with the video? When I first watched the video, I linked the plant to flowers, and flowers are given to beauty queen winners, so that's my interpretation of it.
Our video will be more illustration, but I think we will add aspects of disjuncture there. Only to get the audience's brains thinking.

We wanted our artist to be portrayed as very spoilt, a diva and materialistic. In the original music video, she is seen as a drama queen;

What makes her look dramatic is her make up and performance; Her make up looks very Marilyn Monroe, who was seen as a drama queen. It also looks kind of comedic to give a fun sense to the music video. Her actions portray a very sophisticated, drama queen.
All this suggests that we may have to emphasise on the make up and make sure the performer is up to standards when we are filming her.

Within the music video, there is a sort of effect, where it looks like it is being filmed on to a faulty television screen;

This gives off a vibe that its unprofessional, foreshadowing the performer herself.
I wouldn't want to use this for my music video, however I do want to use a range of effects for my music video.

Overall, I really enjoyed this music video. I found it fun and girly. I am very excited to film our project!
