Laura Mulvey
Laura Mulvey was a feminist who covered the fields of the film industry and she came up with a very persuasive theory about why some music videos were produced. She believed that music videos were made for satisfication for the female and male gender. However she believed the music videos that contained woman who were 'Under dressed' was for the male gender. She explained that it had representation of woman which oppresses them. She called it the 'Male gaze' ; the whole idea of the 'gaze' was to show how the audience looked at the artists or context within it. Her main concept was how men looked at woman in music videos and how it draws them in to viewing their music videos due to certain type of features on the womans body. A technique used by directors to establish this 'male gaze' is called dismembering; this is where the camera focuses on a part of the female/male body (mainly female) to give it that attracting look. This supports Mulvey's Theory.
