Rihanna - We Found Love
the retro look of rihanna influences style of our artist, because that is our main theme.

Christina Aguilera - Candy Man
everything from the shots used, setting and mise en scene will be incoperated in our music video.

Fergie ft Ludacris - Glamorous
The connetations of this video is similar to our video as in the video the artist has a video of her looking like she has everything. for example she has a private jet an also the has people driving her in the car. This is similar to ours as we want to emphasis that our artist has everything in the music video.

Planning; Examine Website And How Brand Image is Promoted

When i went on marina's website page straight away a pop up came up of her promoting some of her songs. She used her website for consumers to directly purchase her music online through itunes. She also has snippets of her songs so potential buyers can have little taste on how here music is before they decide to purchase. Also she uses many different ways to promote her music such as twitter, Facebook and youtube. on her website she has links which connects users to the sites. Through the following links people can have an idea what kind of artist marina is, she makes it quite clear that she wants to portray thats 1980's look to the audience but also bring a modern factor to it so her fans can relate to.

Planning; Extra audience research

These are video responses from Marina's original video of "Primadonna". Everyone has pretty positive responses to this song but what really interests me are the last two comments; they are both male and love this song. This shows that it is the actual song that appeals to the audience. Having said that for the video to get more views by male viewers, we will make our performer visually appealing so that they are attracted to her. We may put in the technique of "Dismembering" in our music video to hold the "Male Gaze". The fact that the comments have multiple thumbs up shows people agree with these comments.

Identify three technical strength and weaknesses

In our music video that we made in june we had various amount of strengths and weaknesses.

The factors we managed to perfect on was:

Mise En Scene - in our music videos which was down with the trumpets me and one other person in our group copied the way the characters dressed. This gave our group a boost in motivation as it helped us act in character whilst we were performing.

Lighting -  The lighting in the actual shooting was great as in the music video 'Down with the trumpets' there were different scenes where it contained bright sun light. we filmed at places where the sunlight was perfect and corresponded with the main music video.

The duration of the video was a decent time as it wasnt too long and not too

However there was also some weak points in our music video such as:

we were not able to hold the camera properly, so some of our filming had shaking and out of focus shots.

Also the sound didnt come out too well and the actual singing in the music video was not lip synced with the audio.

Planning; Animatic

Planning; Video Test Shot

These are screenshots whilst I edited the Video Test Shot; this is when the performer and the people behind the camera practice what is to come whilst editing. Even though we did it in one room, as most of our filming will be done indoors, we made the performer act the choreography that were required to be done in our final product.

This was done completely last minute, as we weren't sure whether we were gonna do this on the day or the next lesson. Nevertheless, it worked out.

As our performer, Jobedha, didn't know the lyrics to the new song, we had to put then lyrics up on screen (hence why she was looking left constantly!). She did an excellent job nevertheless and played it off well.

At first, we had a little problem with lighting and there was hardly any space. We worked around it as we only had a little bit of time. Syma was in charge of the music and lyrics, Humawin filming and Nhadia taking photographs of the whole thing. Jobedha was feeling a bit uncomfortable with Humawin filming, so Syma swapped with him. We then were all singing with Jobedha, so she does not feel uncomfortable. We all had fun during this activity, which will be evident in our bloopers reel!

Unfortunately, we forgot about the mic that comes with the camera but we put the actual song on top of the video and aligned her singing with the song, using our skills from when we re-edited a students previous work. We wanted our music video to have aspects of disjuncture AND illustration, which we tried to do in the test shot; we put shots of her spinning and laughing, which we originally wanted in our video (disjuncture) and she also lyrically choreographed whilst she was singing (illustrative).

We hope you enjoy the test shot!

Analysing student video

I think this music video was extremely produced well. This is because, the performer looks appealing to watch her body languague shows a great confident performance. There was so many exsamples of camera shots, close up, the stillness of the camera used.

NEED TO EMBED VIDEO
SCREEN GRABS

planning for todays media lesson 12th october 2012

In todays lesson the 12th of october we filmed a test shot of our music video. We did this because we wanted to see how the performer would feel and perform in front of the camera and how we would film the music video. we used the studio room with the green screen to get a feel of how the filming would be like when we actually filmed the real thing.  We also took still shots to show how we did these test shots and what we were doing with the green screen, lighting and the performer including the camera man.

Planning; Original artist's website

The original artist of our song is Marina and The Diamonds, diamonds being her fans, not her band. This means she is widely about making music for her fans, not for the fame.
This is her homepage;

 When you first see her homepage, you are greeted with a bunch of links which lead to different things. Marina's fans, or diamonds as she calls them, can look at various things to do on her website. From finding new things about her and her album, buying things from her store (album, clothes, tours) and recent photos, etc.

 These are a bunch social networking sites links so that her fans can reach her in multiple ways and therefore promote themselves even more. As you can see, Marina has Twitter links, Facebook (with how many likes she has) and many others - her YouTube account, SoundCloud page and Tumblr.
Also on the side, there are information about Marina's tour and shows and what she has in her store.

Marina frequently updates her blog on her website to keep up to date with her fans. This is a good way of letting them know if she has any new music up, any new tour dates or album updates.

 Fans can sign up to her website so they can get updates on the second. They can join in competitions, talk to other fans and order things from the store.
I signed up to her fan site for our project, to ask her fans question about our music video and what they would like to see. They kindly replied and told me what they would like to see in the video;
There is a link called "Launch Music Player" which opens up a new window which consists of Marina's new and old music. Fans, or other people visiting her website, can discover her new - or old- music, which then increases the popularity of the artist.

Planning; Analysis of the original video

The song that we have chosen does have a music video, which has similar ideas to our music video. This is the music video for Marina and The Diamonds - Primadonna;

In the beginning of the video, there is a typography screen set in a cinematic way. The song has not started yet but it is introducing the song and the artist;
This may be because when the video is playing on television somewhere it would inform people watching it, what the song is called so that if they like it, they can check it out. This thus gains popularity for the artist. It also catches peoples attention because it is set in a very old fashioned way so it is quite intriguing.
I would not use this in my music video because I would want my audience to be intrigued by the actual artist, instead of the video. So bottom line, I want the video to be about the artist and reflect her attitude/personality.

The shot used in this music video highlights the artist too, but it also uses aspects of disjuncture. For example, here is a shot of her holding a plant;

This has nothing to do with music video; she does not even mention plants/flowers in her song. It is completely random but I think that's what makes this music video different; it makes people think what has that got to do with the video? When I first watched the video, I linked the plant to flowers, and flowers are given to beauty queen winners, so that's my interpretation of it.
Our video will be more illustration, but I think we will add aspects of disjuncture there. Only to get the audience's brains thinking.

We wanted our artist to be portrayed as very spoilt, a diva and materialistic. In the original music video, she is seen as a drama queen;

What makes her look dramatic is her make up and performance; Her make up looks very Marilyn Monroe, who was seen as a drama queen. It also looks kind of comedic to give a fun sense to the music video. Her actions portray a very sophisticated, drama queen.
All this suggests that we may have to emphasise on the make up and make sure the performer is up to standards when we are filming her.

Within the music video, there is a sort of effect, where it looks like it is being filmed on to a faulty television screen;

This gives off a vibe that its unprofessional, foreshadowing the performer herself.
I wouldn't want to use this for my music video, however I do want to use a range of effects for my music video.

Overall, I really enjoyed this music video. I found it fun and girly. I am very excited to film our project!
